Bio
Sandra McGury received her Ph.D. in Linguistics at the University of Georgia. She has held research and lecturer appointments in the US, Germany, and Switzerland, which has strongly influenced her research focus to shift from theoretical linguistics to include applied contexts, in particular, L2 acquisition, L2 pedagogies and testing, academic writing, and higher education learning. She has been involved in numerous projects that examine student competence development and language use in specific learning environments including virtual, international, and digital settings. Her recent publications address academic writing with generative AI, student perspectives on AI in academic writing, virtual exchange in teacher training, and global competence development in higher education.
Outside academia, Sandra enjoys nature, traveling, and yoga. She is inspired by Waldorf approaches to teaching and raising children, and her favorite city in the world is Hanoi, Vietnam.
