Business German
Studying German for Professional Purposes at Wake Forest provides students with extensive preparation in the language and culture of German Business. In an expanded two-semester course series (GER 329 and GER 330), students master the skills to conduct job interviews, prepare resumes, write business correspondence, and discuss central matters of commerce and industry.
Students learn about the importance of small and medium-sized companies for the industrial sector, the characteristics of the German export-oriented market economy, and the efforts to create sustainable business models. The course content is frequently updated to keep students up-to-date on recent developments in Germany’s economy.
A highlight of the course is class visits—both virtual and in-person—by German business leaders from different companies and industries, who allow students to gain first-hand insight into German companies.
The course prepares students for the Sprachzertifizierung WiDaF®, an internationally recognized assessment of students’ proficiency in German for professional purposes. This certification validates language skills and enhances competitiveness in the global job market.
Wayne Calloway School of Business and Accountancy
In addition to this rigorous program of study, the German department has embarked on an exciting collaboration with the Wayne Calloway School of Business and Accountancy at Wake Forest. Interested students majoring in Business and Accountancy may choose to complete a Concentration in German as part of their business degree. Students seeking this designation on their transcript will complete the Business German series, pass the ZDfB exam, complete a course in the business school in International Marketing, and participate in an internship with a German/American corporation. Students pursuing this distinction are encouraged to double major or minor in German, although this is not required.
